Day 19 – My Business Vision

My business vision has been waffling over the last month or two.  When I opened my business, I wanted to focus on helping people and training them to use the technology around them.  I strongly believe that if you know how to use email, surf the internet and have critical thinking skills you can do way more than you ever imagined using free tools on the internet.   My tagline is “Training and advice to meet everyday technical demands.”

For example, building a website.  I did some research and discovered it will cost you between $1000 to $2500 to have someone build you a small website, which is a lot of money for a person or small business.  However, if you are the DIY kind you could build it yourself for about $150.  The $150 buys the domain name and hosting for a year.   It is a lot like cakes.  You can buy a cake from the grocery store or you can buy a box mix and make it yourself.  Doing it yourself will cost you less money, but more time.

In the interest of “expanding”, I offered to make cakes for people or do the technology work for them.  But that is not where my passion lies.  I want to help the people who buy the cake mix, who want to DIY Technology.  I strayed away from my tagline, “Training and advice to meet everyday technical demands” and now I am going back.  I want to help people by doing strategy sessions and consulting; getting them on the right track.  My passion and talents lie in simplifying technology, helping people find the best solution for their business and training them to do it better.
