Many of you already use Safeway Delivery, but for those that don’t let me tell you how amazing it is. My life got a bit complicated in the beginning of January, and I have had trouble fitting in trips to the grocery store, so I had groceries delivered last weekend and it was amazing. At 8 pm on a Saturday night, I sat in my recliner, with a terrible Netflix show playing, and added items to my cart. The next day, at about 1:30 pm, while playing a game with my son who I haven’t spent much time with lately, my groceries appeared on the front step. It was awesome.
There were things I was worried about. I was worried the delivery fee would be high, but there were three different options. For delivery in a one-hour window it is $9.95, for a two-hour delivery it is $5.95, and for a four-hour delivery window it is $3.95. If you spend over $75, you get $20 off and free delivery on your first order. And I believe pick up is free.
I was also a bit worried about the prices of the products compared to Winco where I usually shop. And it’s a bit pricier for some stuff and a lot for others. But the convenience outweighed those concerns in the end. I figure I will do a big grocery shop at Winco once a month and then have fresh fruit and vegetables and other random things delivered once a week. Get the best of both worlds.
And there were frustrating things as well. It took me a moment to figure out how to shop virtually. In a store, especially one you have been going to for years, you know where everything is, and you don’t think about it. The trick I used was that I mentally walked through my local Winco, then used either the search box or the aisles tab to get everything I needed. It seemed to work. Although I couldn’t find only one item. Also, three of my things were not in stock. You have the option to allow substitutions, but I was wary of that, and didn’t do it.
But even with all these worries and frustrations, the convenience of it was incredible. And I recommend wholeheartedly. You can either go to Safeway.com on a computer or download the app to your smartphone or tablet. You will need a Safeway account as well. If you want help setting this up or a tutorial on how to do it, please let me know.
