Day 8 – Gmail Hacked?

Google’s turn.  A Russian group has accumulated about 5 million usernames and passwords through phising and other scams, and then posted to a Russian forum.  Please note that they were unable to hack into Google’s systems.  Do not enter your username and password into any system that will “check” to see if your account was one them; this is more than likely  another scam.  Simply change your password.  It is also recommended you enable the two-step authentication system.  Click on your picture in the upper right, choose Account, then choose the Security tab.  You can change your password and enable the two-step authentication here.

One way to keep an eye on your account activity is to scroll down to the very bottom of your gmail account and click on the “Details” of Latest Account Activity.

It will open a window where you can view on all your recent activity.

The IP address should you be your IP addresses.  If you don’t know your IP, go to Google and type in “What’s my IP?” and Google will tell you.  If you click on “show details” for an authorized app, you will be given a link to “Manage Account Access”.  This will link will take you to a page that will show you all the apps that have access to your account.  On this page you can revoke access to any app by choosing the app, then clicking on “revoke access” on the right side of the page.
