October 2…Technology Tidbits

How has technology impacted your week? Has it driven you crazy or helped you? Did you come across anything interesting? Please send it to me at breanna@digitalnativescoach.com.

Get a Better Handle on the Work Day at Home with Google
My nine-year-old does distance learning, and while he stays on task, for the most part, he still needs some help. This week, we have been using the Family Bells on the Google Home to help keep him on task. It helps me help him, by not having to keep an eagle eye on the clock.

The way it works is that I set up alarms and it announces them throughout the day. At 7:57 AM, it announces that it is time for class, which starts at 8:00 AM. At 8:43 AM on Fridays, it announces it’s time for Speech, which starts at 8:45 AM. And so on.

People can use it for anything that happens at a specific time and/or day of the week. My only complaint is that it only happens once through the speaker. I wish it popped up on the screen of the mobile devices as well and stayed until I dismissed it.

How to Deal with AOL’s Security Notice
AOL is sending out emails to everyone that uses a non-AOL email program with an AOL email address. I wrote an article to help people figure out what it means. If you need more help, let me know.

A Thousand Cuts documentary
I heard about the new documentary, “A Thousand Cuts”, which will be released on PBS Frontline in January 2021. And I can’t wait to watch it.

Fat Bear Week
It is Fat Bear Week at the Katmai National Park. They have an elimination tournament to decide which bear is the fattest. The best part is that you can participate by voting which bear you think is the fattest.
