Technology Topics – July 20th

Tristan Harris – I was listening to the episode “A Different Kind of Streaking” on the Note to Self podcast where they talked with Tristan Harris.  Harris studies and analyzes using technology ethically.  This is the guy that is on our side.

Find Out What Google and Facebook Know About You by Baratunde Thurston – You think Facebook knows a lot about you?  Check out what Google knows by downloading your data.

History Pin – The librarian inside me really likes this one.  Put a location into the search box and it will tell you where all the historical, cultural and art institutions are in that area.

Personalization Versus Privacy: Making Sense of the Privacy Paradox by Mollie Powles – For companies to provide us with really cool tools (traffic filter on maps, autogenerated slideshows with our photos), we have to give them access to our data.  But giving them access to our data is creepy and unnerving.  This is the paradox.

Dear Data – Once again I was listening to the Note to Self podcast, episode Dear (Data) Diary and I hear about this project. Two ladies decided to become pen pals sending each other a postcard with a hand drawn data set based upon the theme of the week. I am a data nerd, so I loved seeing the data in such a low tech way.  Beautiful.
