Day 10 – Stabilizing Spoon

Yesterday Google bought LiftLabs which is a company that developed a stabilizing spoon for those with tremors.  The spoon costs $300, but stabilizes up to 70% of tremors allowing people with tremors to remain independent longer.  Why is this significant?  Because it means that Google is taking an interest in making technology to assist with disabilities.

How does someone with tremors use a touch screen?  Voice activation or maybe a tremor reducing stylus.
When I do my Buying Guide talk, I normally recommend that people with disabilities buy the more expensive Apple products, because they are the leaders in accessibility especially blindness.  This new interest that Google has taken will spur some competition between Google and Apple which will mean only good things for those with disabilities.
Other cool disability assisting technology: bionic exoskeletons, eye tracking technology and of course voice activation.
