Health Tracking Apps

You don’t need a FitBit to track your health.  Your phone will do that too!   Most Apple and Android devices either come with health trackers or they are easily downloadable.

Android devices come with the app called Fit that is an exercise tracker. Once you turn it on, it will track your steps and your route as long as you have your phone on you.  You can also add activities if you don’t have it on you.

Apple has Health app that focuses on four key areas: activity, sleep, nutrition and mindfulness. The app will track how many steps you have taken as well as your route.  Sleep helps you go to bed and wake up at the same time every night. Keep track of your calories or carbs with the nutrition section.  Mindfulness helps you to meditate. The Health app will integrate with third-party apps.

MapMyFitness, Inc has a series of apps to help you track your health.  Map My Fitness Workout keeps track of your workouts and is a calorie counter.  They also have Walk with Map My Walk, Run with Map My Run, one for biking and one for hiking.   A similar company is Runtastic which offers similar apps to MapMyFitness, Inc.

If you need a bit more motivation and want to gamify your exercise, try one of the apps from Six to Start. They combine training for a 5k with a story about zombies and show you how to be a superhero in a 7-minute workout.

Get back on the wagon of your New Year’s Resolution.
